From the top of the CAMPANILE you will enjoy a general explanation of the Opera del Duomo complex and its history, while a breathtaking view will unfold at your feet. Once we descend, we will go around the Cathedral to admire its grand exterior and we will stop at the Baptistery of Florence to see its famous golden vault with Byzantine mosaics. Here, Dante Alighieri was baptized. Thanks to the archives of the Baptistery, we know the year of birth of the majority of Florentine artists baptized there.
The visit will take place for 2 hours until you reach the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo to see the ORIGINAL masterpieces that once stood in the cathedral. Unfortunately, aside from Michelangelo's Pietà Bandini, Cantories of Donatello, and by Luca della Robbia the so-called life sized "facetone", the cathedral is almost completely bare. The "Facciatone" is the fourteenth-century facade of the Cathedral by Arnolfo di Cambio. In the MUSEUM OF THE OPERA DEL DUOMO we will admire the original Ghiberti's Paradise Gate, Donatello's Magdalen, and the original decorations of Giotto- Giotto's external facing by Andrea Pisano, Donatello and other great Renaissance masters.
The journey that our guide will create is easy for everyone!
